# Delegated popup clicks during synchronous rerender
- Source task: 20261009-report-calendar-d19a
- Evidence: synthetic/live browser date selection and the added full delegation/rerender/document-bubbling JavaScript test.
- Finding: a delegated click handler can synchronously replace its clicked DOM node before the document outside-click handler runs. A contains(event.target) check then falsely classifies an internal click as external, prematurely closes the popup and loses the intended focus restoration.
- Reusable practice: preserve event-origin identity with event.composedPath and retain contains as fallback. Test the complete event chain, including target removal and document bubbling, rather than testing the selection helper alone. Verify resulting focus in the browser.
- Scope: frontend event handling only; no report or processing-rule semantics changed.
- Promotion candidate: document this pattern in frontend verification guidance during serialized integration if useful; no canonical guidance changed here.
